Hey, I'm Anthony
I'm a designer-turned-developer and the solo founder behind DeckCheck. I came up through architecture and design—not formal software training—but I've always chased tools that solve real frustrations. I jumped into Magic during Innistrad, fell head over heels, and haven't stopped since. A buddy dragged me into Commander in late 2022 and that sent my obsession to an all-time high.
Commander nights were supposed to be the place where I could unwind from a busy day but instead, too many games ended with me getting flattened by a surprise turn-five combo after everyone promised a relaxed game. DeckCheck began as my answer to that pattern: a simple tool to measure decks objectively so players could find games where everyone's on the same page. I built a little website, shared it on Reddit, and people showed up. They tested it hard, told me when it was wrong, and started asking for more. That feedback loop—build, listen, refine—never stopped. What started as a single-page power calculator grew, one feature at a time, into the platform it is today.
What DeckCheck Is
Today, DeckCheck is a Commander deck builder packed with smart tools that actually understand your deck. It reads your list, understands your strategy, and gives you personalized recommendations, analysis, and optimization—not generic stuff pulled from popularity data, but feedback specific to your build. Think of it like a helpful, knowledgeable friend available 24/7.
It recommends cards that actually synergize with your build. It identifies your weakest cards and tells you what to cut and why. It optimizes your mana base for on-curve casting. It gives you accurate Bracket ratings with full breakdowns for Rule 0 conversations. And it can do all of this within your budget or from cards you already own.
Most importantly, it's completely free and always will be.
Where I'm Taking DeckCheck
I want DeckCheck to be the best place to build a Commander deck. Whether that means it's the biggest platform or has the most features—honestly, I don't care about either of those things. That's not the goal. The goal is to make the best deckbuilding experience with focused, purpose-built, tools that serve the biggest needs for the majority of Commander players. Above all, I want DeckCheck to move the needle. I want it to make a real difference in the Commander format for the better. That's what gets me up in the morning.
